Depending on your condition a series of treatments often leads to a smoother more pleasant feeling skin texture and can help reduce pore size.
An intense light is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation.
The heat causes damage to the vessel or brown patch, and the body begins its natural healing process. The brown patch will darken before it flakes off, or the body absorbs it. Treatments are ideally spaced every three or four weeks. You should find the treatment process is quick, safe and normally not too uncomfortable.
A cooling gel is first applied to the area to be treated and you’ll be asked to wear protective eyewear. A state-of-the-art IPL machine is used to deliver precise pulses of light to treat the pigment or imperfection without damaging surrounding tissue.
For optimal results, a series of 3 to 5 treatments are recommended. Follow up treatments may be desired annually to maintain your results.
Your treatment may vary from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area. First, the area to be treated is cleansed and a cool gel applied. After your treatment, the gel is removed, the skin cleansed, and sunscreen applied. Immediately following your treatment, your skin may appear flushed, brown pigment spots may appear darker, and capillaries may be more visible. Occasionally, temporary swelling and or bruising can occur.
You should expect to see a gradual decrease in redness, broken capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size and fine lines. After each treatment, your skin will feel smoother and appear to have a more even tone.
Most patients find their treatment is relatively pain-free. To improve your comfort we may use a chilled air blower to remove heat from the treatment area. You may experience a slight tingling sensation and have some redness which normally dissipates after an hour or two.
